A significant component of JFJ’s work involves communicating well-researched stories to wider audiences, to highlight the plight of victims and advance accountability and social justice.
OVERVIEW
JFJ is seeking a creative and strategic Social Media Manager for a contract-based position in Nairobi.
We are looking for a passionate candidate who will lead JFJ’s presence across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (X), translating the organisation’s investigative journalism and human rights work into content that reaches and engages wider audiences.
Working closely with the editorial and programmes teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, producing, and publishing content, growing JFJ’s online audience, and tracking performance across all platforms.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE REQUIRED TO:
- Develop and implement JFJ’s social media strategy and content calendar across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (X).
- Create, curate, and schedule engaging content, including copy, graphics, video, and short-form multimedia, that communicates JFJ’s investigative and human rights work to diverse audiences.
- Adapt JFJ’s feature stories and reports into accessible, platform-appropriate social media content.
- Monitor, moderate, and respond to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and professional manner.
- Track and report on key performance metrics (reach, engagement, growth) across all platforms and use insights to refine content strategy.
- Collaborate with the editorial team to plan coverage of events, campaigns, and story releases, including live coverage where required.
- Keep abreast of platform trends, algorithm changes, and best practices, and recommend new approaches to strengthen JFJ’s digital presence.
- Support the design of visual assets for campaigns, using graphic design and basic video editing tools.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity for JFJ across all social media channels.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and objectives of JFJ.
TO APPLY, YOU MUST:
- Have at least 5 years of professional experience managing social media accounts for an organisation or brand, preferably Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (X).
- Possess excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt tone and format across platforms.
- Be proficient in graphic design and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and basic photo/video editing.
- Have working knowledge of social media analytics and scheduling tools.
- Have a strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, particularly when communicating sensitive human rights content.
- Have a passion for human rights and social justice.
- Have the ability to work effectively in a team environment and under tight deadlines, with minimal supervision.
- Be proficient in English, both written and spoken.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Contract position, based in Nairobi, Kenya, for an initial period of 4 months.
- Strong performance during the contract period may lead to an offer of full-time employment.
- Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience.
